why no IPv6 on os x server?

My Sierra (and El Capitan) OS X server doens't have IPv6 address.

so every service must be accessed via IPv4 addressing.

I set-up all my mac with DHCP for IPv4, "automatically" for IPv6

So my client mac's are supplied IPv4 address and IPv6 address.

With the same set-up, my OS X server doens't have IPv6 address.

Why OS X server has only IPv4 address?

Mac mini, OS X Server, Sierra

For my case, I've resolved it.

"Default Network Access" should be "all networks". If not, all IPv6 is disabled.

"Overview" -> "internet" -> "reachable" (reachabiliy details ...) pane check the reachability from internet to the server (services) periodically, when it find the server to be reachable if you set "private", then the server application immediately disables IPv6. (that means there is some delay between the configuration change and IPv6 stop)

It is possible to configure network settings both via the GUI in System Preferences and via the command line i.e. in Terminal. It seems that if IPv6 has been previously disabled via the command line it cannot be re-enabled via System Preferences.

Try the following - adjusted for the name of your network interface

sudo networksetup -setv6automatic Ethernet

You can list all the network interfaces you have to find the correct one by using the following command

networksetup -listallnetworkservices
